Anyway, as promised I'm going to tell you all about how Godzilla came to take over my closet. I found this amazing anime-print fabric at Ikea for something like $5.99/yard and immediately knew that my whole life I'd been missing something: a Godzilla dress. I used this great Simplicity Project Runway pattern for the bodice, collar and sleeves, but opted for a variation of the full skirt from my previous two dresses to showcase the amazing Godzilla fabric. I still plan on using the Simplicity skirt pattern in the future, but I thought that the pleats would probably obscure the print.

I made another dress with even cheaper Ikea fabric, this time using a pattern from BurdaStyle, called the Coffee Date Dress. I left out the ruffle and added some cap sleeves from a Simplicity pattern. I also added a 2" band under the bodice because it ended up being so short on me that it was almost an empire waist.
I added a flower to the bodice to bring the two pieces together. |
Next time: I try my hand at recreating a dress from ModCloth.
HI!!! I saw your Godzilla dress when searching for Godzilla fabric and absolutely love it. I obviously don't want to take the dress away from you but was wondering if you perhaps have extra of the fabric? It has been discontinued and I can't find it to buy anywhere, IKEA no longer sells it. I know its a long shot but if you could please email me at jdprui02@cardmail.louisville.edu I would much appreciate it. Thanks!! -J
