Sewing the Holidays: Merry Ludachristmas!

As I mentioned in my last post, my friend Siobhan had a Ludachristmas party on Friday. As you may imagine from the name, ugly Christmas sweaters are strongly encouraged at this party. I decided to step it up a notch and make an ugly Christmas dress - well, I cheated, and made a cute dress with ugly fabric.

Arr, I hope Santa brings me a new camera.

I used my Simplicity 2444 pattern, which you may remember from my Godzilla dress, which used the bodice and stand collar. This was my first time making it up entirely (Godzilla used a different skirt pattern), and it was also my first time making pleats. Thankfully everything went smoothly and it only took me two days to make it.

I thought the fabric could be made a little tackier, so I also used some sparkly gold rickrack to trim the bottom of the skirt and the inside of the neckline.

Anyway, hope you like my Ludachristmas dress - I have a limited period of time in which I can wear it, so I'm going to be wearing it a lot. For next time, I've got a painting in my head that I think I'll be working on, but there are also a bunch of knitting and sewing projects that I want to do before I go back to school.
